Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice involving the use of thin, sterile and disposable needles inserted into the skin at specific points on the body to relieve pain and treat diseases. It is a 5,000-year-old therapeutic modality recognized by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to be effective in the treatment of virtually any form of medical condition.
An incomplete list of symptoms or conditions which acupuncture is well-known to treat might include: allergies, asthma, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, inflammation, fibromyalgia, digestive issues, irritable bowel syndrome, menopause, PMS, fertility and reproductive issues, morning sickness, nausea, sciatica, sinusitis, joint pain, tennis elbow, chronic fatigue, anxiety, alcohol, smoking and drug addiction, depression, dizziness, headache, migraine, emotional disorders, and stress.
Acupuncture promotes natural healing and circulation. It can enhance recuperative power and immunity, support physical and emotional health, and improve our overall daily functioning and well-being. It is a safe, painless way to treat a wide variety of medical problems. Acupuncture does this by promoting the flow of the body's Qi (sometimes spelled "Chi" and pronounced "chee"). At the core of this ancient Eastern practice is the meridian philosophy which maintains that a person's health is influenced by the balance and flow of Qi through the body's meridians, or channels. Whenever we experience physical or emotional trauma, stress, or injury, we restrict our Qi’s movement through the meridians. Qi's balance is also affected by lack of exercise, poor diet, and overexertion.
After a thorough initial exam with the patient, the acupuncturist formulates a well-structured treatment plan, focusing on those acupoints along the body's meridians which will help the body rid itself of obstructions and balance Qi where it has become unbalanced. With Qi circulating freely throughout the body again, the cells, tissues, glands, muscles, and organs affected by the imbalance will once again be effectively nourished and optimal health and well-being can be restored.
Using an integrative approach to Eastern medicine, we provide our patients with highly personalized care. In addition to acupuncture, we utilize a combination of various modalities, or techniques, such as cupping, herbology, electro-acupuncture, functional nutrition planning, and moxibustion.
